Companies could cut emissions and save millions of pounds by replacing business travel with virtual meetings. However the allure of time out of the office stops people using such technology, a study suggests. Researchers studied two virtual conferences and found they had considerably smaller costs and carbon output compared with their real-life equivalents.
Results of a five-year study on telemedicine showed that patients can be treated virtually by physicians as effectively as if the patients made physical visits to the doctor’s office. In another finding, the remote treatment also improved doctor-patient communication.
Keith Quinn, senior education and workforce development advisor at the Scottish Social Services Council, is developing mobile delivery of interactive learning to train Scotland’s entire social service workforce. We recently had an opportunity to see our platform in action at the Americas SAP User Group (ASUG) in Orlando. A total of 101 volunteers aged 58 to 99 took part in the Cybercycle Study. The results, published in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine, showed a marked difference between the two groups after three months.
